Visit of the CERN Science Gateway

15-05-2024 14:15 -16:30
CHF 10.- (free for members)
Visit of the CERN Science Gateway

Discover CERN, the Universe, and the wonders of quantum physics with real scientific objects and three interactive exhibits:

1) Explore how the Universe works at tiny scales: Discover the world of particles as if you yourself were so tiny. Sing quantum karaoke, spot the entangled particles, play the quantum tunnelling game, and try out quantum tennis.

2) Explore CERN’s particle accelerators. An immersive scenography will transport you to the underground tunnels. Play the control room game, pilot a robot, dig a tunnel, and play a game of proton football.

3) Back to the Big Bang: follow the journey your particles took on their way to becoming you! Get transported through the different stages of the Universe, design your own star, and eject it out into space, play with the proton weighing scales and try your hand at trapping antimatter.

Visit in English and French.

Visit to the Greenhouses of the Geneva Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

19-06-2024 14:00 -16:00
CHF 10.- (free for members)
Visit to the Greenhouses of the Geneva Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

Discover the work of the Botanical Garden by following in the footsteps of Jeanne Baret, the first woman botanist to travel the world!

In our living collections, we'll discover how to collect and press a plant, and dive into the greenhouses to unravel the mysteries of growing tropical plants in our latitudes.

In the herbarium, we'll see the original samples collected by Jeanne and her companion Philibert Commerçon during their voyage, and learn how herbarium plates are assembled and preserved.

Get ready to discover the plant world, through the eyes of botanists past and present, who collect, preserve, describe and name nature's treasures!

Visit to the LéXPLORE floating laboratory (Pully) 11:30 a.m.

19-07-2024 11:30 -12:30
CHF 10.- (free for members)
Visit to the LéXPLORE floating laboratory (Pully) 11:30 a.m.

Lakes are fascinating ecosystems and important natural resources for drinking water, fishing, recreation and tourism. However, lakes are extremely sensitive to changes in climate and land use, as well as to various sources of pollutants. To study and predict these changes, we have set up the most advanced experimental station ever installed on a lake.

Since February 2019, the LéXPLORE platform has been anchored on Lake Geneva near Pully. This platform is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation to simultaneously measure physical, chemical and biological processes at high temporal and spatial resolutions. This unique data set will enable us to model key processes in the lake, in order to predict the lake's evolution and the impacts of environmental change.

This visit can be combined with a family outing, where everyone can bring a picnic and their swimsuits to enjoy the nearby pool together.

Meet at the Port of Pully to take a small boat to the platform.
