Volunteers

Expanding your horizons conference would not be possible without the countless dedicated volunteers who give their time and to help make the day a success.

For every conference, volunteers are needed to help as workshop assistants, registration desk assistants and workshop guides who accompany the girls to the workshops they have chosen.  It is a day of inspiring girls to excel in science and mathematics and your support is critical!

We are very grateful for the help provided by individuals (parents, friends, ex-colleagues and students) that come back each year and we particularly welcome young women that have participated in previous conferences run by EYH.

Role descriptions

Volunteers are needed the day of the EYH conference to assist with many conference tasks. If you have a few hours to give you can assist with the following tasks on the day:

On the Friday evening before the event you can help prepare the campus for the 420 girls, teachers and parents that will converge at Uni Mail, Geneva

 

When to arrive

  • An orientation session will be held on the Friday evening before the event to provide you with information and your T-shirt for the day.  We can also answer any questions you may have.
  • The Day before the conference, Volunteers need to arrive at Uni Mail between 18:00 -18:30 and will need to register.
  • On the day of the conference, volunteers are asked to arrive at 7:30. You will have to register if you have not done so on the day before.
  • Lunch at the conference will be provided to all volunteers.
  • If you do not manage to attend the EYH volunteer orientation the evening before the event and receive a T-shirt, we will have those available the morning of the event.

Volunteer Registration

When you arrive either the day before to set up or on the day of the conference, please make your way to the Volunteers registration desk where you will be given your volunteers pack and your final role assignments.

 

When you can leave

After the conference, you are invited to join the volunteers, workshop leaders and committee members for cocktails.  This is an opportunity to get to know each other and a small thank you for your contribution.
Once the conference is over (at around 15:30) you are free to leave.

We would be grateful if you would help at the cloakroom.

 

Training

The Day before or on the Day of the conference -Volunteers will be allocated into groups and given training and explained the fire drill. Please open and read the fire drill and job descriptions provided as a pdf on this page.

 

What to wear, what to bring with you

Light, casual, indoor clothing, jeans accepted. You will be provided with a T-shirt to identify you as a member of staff.

You are encouraged to bring your mobile phone and to take pictures to load onto our social media sites. All social media must be vetted by the Media desk found in the hallway before being uploaded.

 

Lunch

We will provide you with lunch. Vegetarians and non-vegetarians are catered for (see the menu) and you are invited to cocktails after the event to network with the workshop leaders and committee.

 

Transportation

You are encouraged to take public transport and we can provide you with a free TPG ticket on request (please email volunteers@ elargisteshorizons.ch). There is also ample parking in the area (see details on venue).

 

Rewards and recognition

All Volunteers who attend receive: A certificate of attendance and an EYH Staff T-shirt (which you may keep).

For young adults we provide:

  • A community service report for CAS (Creativity Action Service) – outlining the students comportment on the day.  (On request) 
  • A discretionary voucher

We suggest you use our Linkedln organization (Elargis tes Horizons) logo to create an entry on your Linkedln profile which records your volunteering and shows your passion for science and/or your devotion to the community.
